Mixed weekend.

The weather was mixed at the weekend and we did a mixture of activities to make the most of it.

We started the weekend with a walk to the coast on Friday evening.

Saturday was forecast to be dry, cold and overcast. We decided on a walk around the Newlands Horseshoe and headed out early to ensure that we could get parked at the foot of Cat Bells. The forecast proved accurate although there were some light snow showers. The fells were still very wintry making the going hard work. We saw few people on the hill but Keswick was busier when we popped in after the walk for tea and cake at Fisher's Cafe.

A last look back to the Newlands valley.

We wanted a lie in on Sunday so decided on a road bike ride in the morning. We headed out under blue skies well wrapped up against the cold. After last week's successful first road ride we rode a bit further this time. Our 'Lorton Loop' was just over 30 miles and again it felt good to be on the bike - although Susan had a sore back.

Heading east on a cold morning.

Enjoying the sun.

The back roads were quiet.

On route to Lorton with snow capped hills ahead.

After lunch we couldn't sit in on such a great day so we headed to the nearest hill - Blake Fell - for a wander. It was well worth the effort as the excellent visibility gave some great views.

Higher up the views of the western fells were superb.

Easy going on the descent.

A great day to be outside.
