Windy!!!!

It's been a windy week in Cumbria and has felt more like Autumn than summer. We've managed two short after work rides (Wednesday and Friday) and have had a good weekend despite the weather.
On Saturday the forecast was for upland gales with gusts up to 70mph so we decided to stay low. We headed up Borrowdale and parked at the Bowderstone Car Park to climb King's How and Brund Fell. Cloud covered the higher tops and the wind on these low fells proved our decision was a wise one. We only met one party on the round and that was on the descent.
As we'd not been to Keswick for a while a wander around the shops and a scone in Abraham's Cafe were a must.

On the steep ascent of King's How.

Above Borrowdale - not much of a summer!!

On the summit of King's How.

Blue Bells hanging on into June.

Some shelter from the wind.

Brund Fell.

Starting the descent.

The valley floor is looking very green but the bracken hasn't grown much.

Not what you hope for in June.

Today was forecast to be calmer and brighter. It is now but during our cycle to Buttermere the wind continued to blow and for much of the route it was overcast. Despite this we thoroughly enjoyed our longest ride for some time and the cream tea in Sykes Farm Cafe was superb.
Fingers crossed for some summer weather soon.

Heading east near Kirkland.

On the C2C route to Loweswater.

Passing through the Hamlet of Loweswater.

Brighter as we arrive in Buttermere.

Upstairs in the superb Sykes Farm Cafe.

Tea and cream scone - superb and worth the ride.

Leaving Buttermere.

Crummock Water under brighter skies.

Heading for Lorton with Grasmoor ahead.

A much better day!!!

Battling into a head wind all the way home!!!!

The road to Dean.

Nearly there after a grand ride.
