Troutdale Pinnacle.

Black Crag at the head of Troutdale has always been a favourite after work crag as it offers multi-pitch climbing not far from the car in a beautiful setting. Three years ago Jeff and I never thought we'd climb there again due to his leg injury sustained on Skye in 2007.  Since then he has been given the go ahead to climb by his surgeon and we have visited low lying crags with short approaches, routes and descents. Black Crag was, however, just too far for him to walk. Determined to get there he has been walking further and further with the dog and last night we went for it.
Our route choice was the Classic Rock route Troutdale Pinnacle (S). We left the car at about 4.30pm and at a steady pace reached the crag in 30 minutes with no problem. The crag was empty and the weather perfect. It was brilliant to get back on this varied route with excellent climbing in some exposed positions and when we got back to the car with no problems on the descent we knew that we would be back soon.

At 6 pitches long Troutdale Pinnacle is our longest route for 7 years.

Looking up at the pinnacle the route takes it's name from.

Happy to have repeated a Lakeland classic!!!!

A grand night out.

Looking back at the crag bathed in evening sun - the pinnacle can be seen on the top right corner.
