Some better weather and an active week.

Although 'true summer' weather has yet to arrive in Cumbria it's been a much better week and we've been pretty active especially after work. On Monday we had a good 5 mile walk to the coast and back and then on Tuesday I went climbing with Jeff at Shepherds Crag in Borrowdale. It's a while since I've climbed so we did two routes on Brown Slabs at around V. Diff. On the last of these I accidently dropped Susan's camera from about 15m and saw it bounce several times on the rocks below. Amazingly when we got down and found it there was little damage and it appears to be still working. The same evening Susan had a cycle from home.

Susan went out for her tea on Wednesday with friends from work so I went for a bike ride and we went for a cycle together on Thursday evening. Friday's forecast was good so we headed out for an evening walk up Skiddaw via Little Man. It was a little overcast but it was good to be out in the quiet of the evening.

Heading for Skiddaw.

A lovely evening above Borrowdale.

Not a bad place to eat your tea on Friday - a delicious pasta salad.

The evening is one of the best times to be on the fells.

After a week of dry weather Saturday was forecast to be wet so we did some 'jobs' in the morning. It wasn't as bad as forecast and in the afternoon we did a 32 mile cycle from home making the route up as we went along. The cycling fitness is slowly improving.

Out on the backroads of west Cumbria.

Today was forecast to be dry and bright so we headed for the hills to do some more 'Lakeland 100 peaks'. We parked at Seathwaite and headed up Grains Gill towards Great End. The tops were cloud covered but we were sure it would clear. It didn't!!!! By the time we reached Esk Hause it was raining and this got heavier as we climbed Esk Pike. We decided to carry on to Great End to give it a chance to clear but there was no improvement so we voted to head down knowing that it would be better in the valley. A little disappointing but as always good to get out and it was quiet.

Heading up Grains Gill.

A wet Esk Hause - on with the waterproofs.
