No sign of summer.

It's been a largely cold, wet and windy week in Cumbria with no sign of summer. On Saturday the forecast suggested that it would brighten up by lunchtime so we head to Borrowdale to climb Green Gable and Great Gable. As it was overcast and wet when we arrived in Keswick we decided to have a wander around the town before heading down the valley to Seathwaite. By 11am the weather showed little improvement so we decided to head off any way.
Seathwaite was quieter than expected at this time of year and initially the path up into Gillercomb was empty. However, higher up we passed a large part of students some of whom were struggling on the steeper climb out of the comb. The visibility was poor but we know the way well and made good progress up Green Gable and the Great Gable. We passed several groups and the summit itself was quite busy.
After lunch we headed down the Breast Route to Styhead Tarn and as often happens the sky began to clear giving some great views of the Scafell massif. This definitely made the day but the climb had also been enjoyable.

A good day on the hill.

Today has been another wet and windy one but we managed a 22 mile bike ride just before lunch and a walk to the coast in the afternoon. Lets hope for more seasonal weather in the weeks to come.
