Return to winter.

The weather has been very changeable this week due to frequent changes in pressure. Tuesday was the best day of the week and luckily for Susan it tied in with Ross being down for a couple of days. They had a good wander over Latrigg and Susan's back wasn't too bad.

Ross on Latrigg summit.

Thursday was very wet in west Cumbria but the rain fell as snow on the fells bringing a return to winter. Susan wanted to try her back out on a more challenging walk today and as the forecast suggested it would be dry but overcast we headed for Borrowdale to climb Glaramara and Allen Crags from Seatoller. The cloud base was above the fell tops as we set off and remained so for most of the day which made navigating straight forward despite a covering of snow above 600m.
We made steady progress up Glaramara and had lunch on the summit. Susan's back was fine so she was happy to continue  along the broad ridge to Allen Crags. It was a monochrome world up there due to the snow and cloud cover but there were some good views.
We didn't linger long on Allen Crags but headed to Esk Hause and then followed the Styhead path all the way to the tarn. From here we dropped down to Seathwaite and then followed the road back to the car. A Fish Supper in the Keswickian Cafe was a real treat to round off the day. Susan's back had been fine but is still painful when she's sitting or lying down.
