Anniversary weekend.
It was our 6th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday and the weather was a repeat of the 'Big Day' with strong wind and rain dashing any hopes of a long fell walk or cycle. Alec came down from Scotland for the weekend on Friday night and was keen to get out so we headed for Borrowdale to do the King's Howe / Brund Fell round. The autumn colours are still good in the valley so despite the sometimes heavy rain and gusty wind we and a good mornings wander.
Keswick was filling up with 'Half term holiday' arrivals when we got there at lunch time but surprisingly Abraham's Cafe in Fishers wasn't full so we nipped in for tea and a scone - always a wee treat.

The bracken is still very autumnal.
On the final climb to the summit with Derwent Water just visible in the background.

Heading for Brund Fell above the Borrowdale Valley.
A wet summit shot.
Dropping down to Rosthwaite.
Autumn in upper Borrowdale.
Today dawned very windy but dry. The clocks had turned back so we had longer in bed than normal before heading out on our 'bad day' ride to Whitehaven harbour on the cycle track. Like last week it was a battle heading south into the wind but coming back was a doddle. Despite the weather there was plenty to see including red squirrels, oyster catchers and cormorants. Soon after we got home the rain started and it didn't let up until dusk.
Heading to Whitehaven.
Battling into the wind on the coastal track.
Whitehaven Harbour.
Riding around the harbour on the way home.
Just outside Parton on the 'Wagon Road'.
Good to be out on the bike!!!
