Varied weekend.

Alec came down from Scotland for the weekend late on Friday evening. We still managed to get out quite early on Saturday morning and headed for Buttermere. It was fairly overcast but there was some brightness and it looked like it would be largely dry.
We parked in the NT car park and then headed off for Red Pike. The initial climb through the woods soon warmed us up so we had a quick stop to remove fleeces before heading on. We climbed the minor top of Dodd first where a strong breeze soon cooled us down, giving an indication of what it was going to be like higher up.
The final climb onto Red Pike is becoming more and more eroded but we were soon up it and on the summit. It was much cooler here so we put on extra layers and hats to warm us for the rest of the ridge walk to Scarth Gap.
The route over High Stile and High Crag is a favourite as it gives some great views. However, low cloud and the odd light shower limited the visibility. On the summit of High Crag we got out of the stiff breeze and had lunch. We also decided to call it a day at Scarth Gap and head back to the village along the lake shore. We couldn't resist an ice cream in Syke Farm Cafe before heading home.

Buttermere lake was surprisingly calm on an overcast morning.

This morning Alec wanted a lie in so we headed out for a short ride. It was bright, breezy and mild and we thoroughly enjoyed our 18 mile Dean round.

Descending to Ullock.

Leaving Branthwaite.

After a quick brew we headed out again to have lunch in Keswick. We parked in the Football Club Car Park and then had a quick walk up and down Latrigg to work up an appetite. It was then off to Abraham's Cafe in Fishers for a superb lunch before running Alec to Carlisle to catch the train back to Glasgow.

Heading up Latrigg from Keswick.
