A feel of Autumn.

We headed for the fells today on a beautiful morning. The trees and bracken are on the turn in Cumbria and this, along with cooler temperatures, meant that the day had a feel of Autumn - appropriate for 21st September.
We parked by Crummock Water near Rannerdale and then walked back to Lanthwaite Green to climb steeply up Whiteside. A steady pace saw us catching several people and we didn't stop at the 'crowded' summit but pushed on for Hopegill Head along the delightful linking ridge. The summit was quiet for a while so we had a drink and a bite to eat before heading for Grasmoor.
The views were great as we climbed up the hills NE ridge and the weather was perfect for walking. Surprisingly the large summit shelter was empty and remained so as we sat and ate our lunch.
Our route of descent took us down to Coledale Hause and then over Wandope and Whiteless Pike to Rannerdale. From here it was just a short walk back to the car to complete an excellent wee round.
