A bit of an Indian Summer.

Cumbria has had a bit of an Indian Summer over the last two weeks so we've tried to make the most of it.
On Monday and Tuesday we got the road bikes out and did our shorter after work round on two very pleasant evenings.
Susan went for a walk to the harbour on Wednesday and I went climbing again with Jeff and Pete. We headed back to the accessible South Crag of Castle Rock and managed 3 routes before the sun dropped behind the western fells - Kleine Rinne [VS 4b], Wall Climb [S] and Gangway [HVD]. This was the first time we'd climbed Kleine Rinne for 7 years and it proved easier than we remembered. As is tradition the night was rounded of with chips and a pint in Keswick.

Three shots of Jeff high on the first pitch of Kleine Rinne - recovery complete.

Myself having pulled over the overlap on Kleine Rinne.

Jeff on the short top pitch of Kleine Rinne - pleased to be back out climbing.

Pete on Gangway the last route of the evening.

We had a walk from home on Thursday and Friday (down to the harbour) evenings and hoped for a good weekend.
Saturday saw us heading east for Borrowdale to park at the road head at Seathwaite. It was a little over cast but the day looked promising as we headed off for Seathwaite Fell. We soon warmed up and at Stockley Bridge we had to stop to remove fleeces before the climbing began. The sun was shining by the time we reached the summit and there were some good, if somewhat hazy, views.
We dropped down to Sprinkling Tarn and then headed to Esk Hause. Before the summit of the pass we turned and climbed Great End. So far we hadn't seen too many people but this changed as we headed east for Scafell Pike. The summit was 'heaving' so we didn't stop and dropped down to Lingmell Col as quickly as possible - difficult due to large numbers of charity walkers heading up.
From the col we climbed Lingmell where we had a shoes off rest before heading back to the car via the Corridor Route. This took about 2 hours and we then headed for Keswick for a wee bit of shopping.

Dropping down to Stockley Bridge.

Today we had a wee lie in but still headed out early by some peoples standards for Keswick on the bikes. Our route took us over Whinlatter Pass which apart from one section is a relatively easy climb. The temperature fluctuated as the sun came and went but it was a great cycling day.
In Keswick we just popped into Saddleback Cafe for coffee and cake before heading home via Bassenthwaite, Embleton, Eaglesfield, Dean and Branthwaite. A great 49 miler to end a pretty active week.

Heading for Lorton on an overcast day.

Climbing the lower slopes of Whinlatter Pass - getting warmer!!!

Higher on the climb - minus jacket.

Always plenty of bikes outside Saddleback.

Heading back west on quiet roads.

Nearly back 'yam'.
