Scafell Pike sea to summit.

One of the trips on my 2014 'To do list' was a sea to summit ascent of Scafell Pike. As Susan and I have not had time to do this yet I jumped at the chance of doing it with Pete Baines. We met at his house in Nether Wasdale and cycled to Ravenglass where we dipped our tyres in the sea before heading back inland for Wasdale Head.
This 12 mile ride gave some great views and had some steep little climbs. Unfortunately we could see that the 'Pike' was cloud covered.
We locked the bikes up in the newly extended National Trust Car Park changed into fell shoes and headed off. Pete, who is in the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team, led us up a quiet track that they call 'Joss's Direct Route' which took us almost to Lingmell Col. He then took us on another 'Team' short cut and we were on the summit in under  1.5hours. Unfortunately there were no great views and lots of people.
After a quick lunch we headed down taking the Lingmell nose route. The weather improved as we descended and we had a great 5 mile ride back to Pete's.
