Over Whinlatter pass to Keswick.

It rained heavily last night but it was bright enough when we got up to encourage us to get the bikes out again and head for Keswick via Lorton and Whinlatter Pass. It felt much fresher than of late as we headed east and we really enjoyed the ride up the pass. Susan was especially pleased to catch and overtake a lycra clad 'roadie' on the steepest part of the climb. Keswick was very busy so we just stopped at the new cyclists cafe 'Saddleback' next to Keswick Bikes for a brew and a scone before heading home. Our route back west took us around Bassenthwaite Lake to Embleton and then on to Eaglesfield, Dean, Branthwaite and Gilgarran. We were caught be a heavy shower at one point but soon dried off.
Another excellent round of about 55miles.

Heading to Lorton with cloud on the Grasmoor Fells.

Starting up the steepest part of Whinlatter Pass.

At the top of the pass having overtaken the 'lycra roadie'.

Descending Whinlatter Pass.

Taking the quiet backroads to Keswick from Braithwaite.

Our lunch stop with a clearing view down Borrowdale after a heavy shower.

Nearly home just outside Branthwaite.
