New route.

Friday was very wet in Cumbria but the forecast promised brighter and drier weather today so we headed to Keswick with the intention of climbing Skiddaw and Blencathra. As we left the car park low cloud obscured the first objective but it looked as though it would brighten up later.
As we climbed the wind picked up and it became much cooler so we decided to change the route. Instead of heading for Blencathra after Skiddaw we decided on a link up with Great Calva something we've never done before.
By the time we reached Little Man the cloud base had lifted and the weather just got better and better all day. Skiddaw summit was empty when we arrived and we didn't see another sole until much later in the day when we reached Skiddaw House Youth Hostel. So much for the crowded Lake District.
There were some great views as we dropped down towards Whitewater Dash and then up to Great Calva summit where we had lunch. From here it was a long walk out to Keswick but the views south to Thirlmere and Borrowdale were stunning.
After a quick change of footwear at the car it was into town for a well deserved ice cream and a wee wander around the shops.

Much warmer as we head down towards Whitewater Dash.
