Blencathra.

The forecast was for heavy showers and longer periods of rain today so we settled on a shortish drive and short walk in the hills. The most talked about mountain in the Lakes at the moment is Blencathra, as it's up for sale for £1.75 million, and that's where we headed.
We parked at the foot of Mousthwaite Combe and set off for Scales Tarn. The sky was dark as we climbed but it remained dry for the first 30 minutes. One we started the final ascent to the tarn rain began to fall and it was on and off for the rest of the day. We had no plans to climb Sharp Edge, as the rock would have been very slippery, so at the tarn climbed south onto the upper part of Scales Fell ridge. From here it was a short walk to the summit which we reached in heavy rain.
We decided to 'drop off the back' so headed for Atkinsons Pike and descend Foule Crag. After lunch in the rain it was down the Glenderamackin valley and back down Mousthwaite Combe to the car.
On a day like this Abraham's Cafe in Fishers is always a welcome treat so we headed there for tea/coffee and scones.

On route to Scales Tarn before the rain.

Almost at the tarn below Sharp Edge.
