August Bank Holiday.
We had a very varied Bank Holiday weekend. On Friday night we drove up to Dumfries to celebrate Susan's Mums 80th Birthday. On Saturday we took her down the Dumfries coast to Kipford and had a walk to Rockcliffe and back. The sun was shining so the coast was at it's very best and it was hard to believe we were in SW Scotland.

Can this really be SW Scotland?
On Sunday we drove back to Cumbria under disappointingly cloudy skies. We decided to stop off and climb Blencathra. The only problem was finding a place to park on a Bank Holiday. Eventually we found a space near the Blencathra Centre. From here we climbed Halls Fell ridge which we'd not done for some time. Although it felt hard work we past several groups and enjoyed the easy scrambling. Unfortunately views were limited. We descend via Blease Fell.

Monday saw us up and out early to 'bag' a parking spot in Keswick which we thought would be busy due to the annual Keswick Show. On arrival we found that the show wasn't on and the Football Club Car Park was empty. It was, however, a beautiful morning for our planned cycle around the back of Skiddaw and Blancathra so the early get up was still worthwhile. We were in exploring mode and just linked together quite backroads. The only must was a stop in the Cycle Cafe in Greystoke. We ended up doing 50 miles and thoroughly enjoyed it.
A beautiful morning for an exploratory ride.
Back O' Skiddaw.
Looking across to Blencathra which we'd climbed the day before.
