New tops.
Cumbria has had fantastic weather over the last two weeks since we returned from Chamonix. Unfortunately we've been unable to get onto the fells until today. As Susan is still recovering from a bout of Laryngitis we decided on a couple of low hills on her Wainwright to do list - Eagle Crag and Sergeant's Crag above Langstrath, Borrowdale.
We parked at Stonethwaite and headed for the steep climb up Eagle Crag under a grey sky. It was cold but calm and there was some ice on the paths. As we climbed the higher hills to the SW came into view. They still hold a considerable amount of snow and looked fantastic. The top section of the route involved some easy scrambling and care was needed due to ice and, in places, hard packed snow. The summit view was excellent but we didn't linger as there was a wee breeze.
Sergeant's Crag was soon climbed and we decided to find shelter to have some food and drink. It was still early and Susan was feeling OK so we decided to extend the route and head off for High Raise. There was quite a bit of snow on this section and the views got better and better. To descend we headed for Stake Pass and then dropped into Langstrath for the walk back to the car. An excellent return to the fells and two new tops for Susan.
In Keswick we also had to make a return to Fishers Cafe before heading home.
