More 'wee' Wainwrights.

As the cloud base was low and the forecast not great on Saturday morning we decided to 'tick' some more of Susan's lower 'wee' Wainwrights. We headed for Grasmere to climb 3 fells as a horseshoe route around Easedale - Silver How, Blea Rigg and Tarn Crag.
We left the car park in full waterproofs and they remained on all day. At first rain fell but this soon turned to snow which limited visibility and made the ground very slippery in places. These fells are much busier than those in the west and we passed several groups as we made our way round. Despite the weather it was good to be travelling over hills I've not done for years and we both thoroughly enjoyed the day.

A quick lunch break - a return to winter.

A forecast of strong and cold easterly winds was enough for us to stick to the 'wee' Wainwright theme on Sunday. The nearest one remaining on Susan's list was Lank Rigg on the western edge of the Lake District. We parked on the Cold Fell road and headed off into a very cold easterly wind. After the initial approach track the ground was very wet and there was little evidence of the footpath erosion found in the busier parts of the Lakes. Indeed for most of the route there was no path. The higher fells to the east were quite white but we were glad to have picked a lower hill as the wind was biting.
We didn't linger long at the summit Trig Point but did find a stone shelter to have lunch in on the descent. We saw no one else on the hill - quiet a contrast to Saturday and proof that the Lakeland fells are not all busy.
Susan now has 47 Wainwrights left on her list so a 'completion' should be possible this year.
