More snow.
It was raining as we headed east for the fells this morning so we decided on a wee wander around Keswick, to give it a chance to dry up as forecast. By 10.30 things were looking more promising but as the fells were still shrouded in cloud we decided not to travel far and headed for Threlkeld to climb Blencathra.
We parked in the village and headed for Doddick Fell ridge. The rain soon eased off and we both took a layer off before the ridge climb.
A steady pace soon saw us up the ridge and above the snow line. We past a farmer but no one else on this section and we only saw one other team on Scales Fell ridge before reaching the summit. Visibility was very poor at this sage and in places the snow was knee deep making the going hard work. Once we'd summited we just kept going, using the summit ridge as a handrail, towards Blease Fell. From this top it was an easy descent back to the car. Below the cloud the day was much better so we headed back to Keswick for a wee wander and a cafe break.
