A cracking day on the hill.
As high pressure was forecast for today we were up and out early. On route for the fells we decided on the Coledale Horseshoe. We parked on the Newlands Hause road and then headed back to Braithwaite from where we started the long climb up Grisedale Pike. This is a tough climb but the stunning views made the effort worthwhile and we were soon on the summit. It was cold but the visibility was fantastic with both the Isle of Man and the snow covered Moffat hills in Scotland standing out.
Starting out on a blue sky day.
Heading for Grisedale Pike.

Nearly there.
The view to Hopegill Head from the summit of Grisedale Pike.
It was too good a day to descend early so we decided to extend our route by climbing Grisedale Pike and Grasmoor the summit of which we reached just after 12. Lunch was a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich followed by homemade tea loaf - delicious.

Out in the hills on a great day.
Climbing up Grasmoor.
Some of last weeks snow remained on the higher tops.
What a day and almost empty hills.
Looking towards home in west Cumbria.
The next top was Crag Hill and amazingly it was empty on such a stunning day. We did pass a few folk on the next leg over Sail and Scar Crags on route to Causey Pike but it wasn't by any means busy. Several photo stops slowed our progress but all too soon we were dropping down to the car. A fantastic round which we just had to finish off with a trip to Fishers Cafe - perfect.
The view towards the Scafell range.
An empty Crag Hill looking east.
A summit shot together.
Starting the descent.
