The end of summer.
Today is the last day of summer and it has officially been the wettest one since 1912. We didn't really need the Met. Office to tell us this as the wet weather has had a big impact on our outdoor activities. Since returning from the Alps there has been no settled weather so we've had to grab any chance to get out when the rain has stopped.
Over August Bank Holiday we were up in Dumfries, at Susan's Mums, on Saturday and Sunday and had two good short bike rides despite the rain. On Bank Holiday Monday we were back in Cumbria where the forecast heavy rain caused the cancellation of the Keswick Show. We braved the rain for a short walk over Latrigg before treating ourselves to lunch in Fishers Cafe.
This week I had a few days in Leeds with my Mum and had a walk 'down memory lane' on the way home. I came back through the Dales and stopped off in Horton in Ribblesdale to climb Pen-y-ghent. I've climbed this hill many times and in all weathers but haven't done so in over 10 years. Climbing it brought back many memories including my first 3 Peaks Round completed with my Dad when I was a teenager.
