Evening on Skiddaw.
Susan hadn't had a ride in the new Octavia so last night when she got home from work we went out to climb Skiddaw. This would also show us if we'd gained any fitness in the Alps.
We cheated slightly and parked high at the back of Latrigg and then set of under a grey sky and in a strong breeze. The prospects of seeing anything on the the top looked slim. We passed two descending groups early on who gave us strange looks as if to say 'what are you doing heading off at this time of night?'. We soon found that, although they are small compared to the Alps, the fells are hard work to climb. However, we made good progress and within an hour we were climbing onto the summit ridge. The wind here was strong but to our amazement the clouds parted to reveal blue sky and some great views - a reward for our efforts. We had a bite to eat in the summit shelter then headed down as the sun set over west Cumbria.
The clouds break as we walk along the summit ridge.
