Prolonged heavy showers and intermittent heavy rain.
The weather forecast for the weekend was for prolonged heavy showers and intermittent heavy rain - we aren't sure how the two differ.
On Friday when Susan got home from work it was bright for a change so we headed out for a walk over a couple of low Lakeland fells - Ling Fell and Sale Fell - just outside Cockermouth. Linking the two hills gave us a good 2 hour round and there was some excellent evening light for photographs. There was no rain!!!

Climbing Sale Fell with Binsey in the distance.

On Saturday I had to take a bike into Keswick Bikes for a repair. Their new shop is looking good and getting busier { http://www.keswickmountainbikes.co.uk/acatalog/index.html }. From here it was onto Scales for a walk over Bannerdale Crags and Blencathra. We set off under a cloudy sky but there was some brightness about as we climbed up Mousthwaite Comb heading for Bannerdale Crags east ridge. As we ascended the ridge rain began to fall and the waterproofs went on. On the summit there was some brightness but with a strong westerly wind this soon changed and by the time we were climbing Blencathra it was pouring down. There was no one on the summit and we only passed two other couples as we dropped back down to the car along Scales Fell ridge. We weren't sure if we'd experienced a prolonged heavy showers or intermittent heavy rain but we were wet!!! Tea and scones in Fishers Cafe cheered us up before I picked up my bike and we headed home in sunshine - typical.

The summit of Bannerdale Crags with Blencathra beyond - the cloud base soon dropped and the rain poured down.
Today the roads were wet as we headed out from home for a cycle. It was breezy and dark clouds threatened rain. Our loop took in the local villages of Gilgarran, Ullock, Pardshaw, Brandlingill, Eaglesfield, Greysouthen and Bridgefoot. For most of the way it was dry and the bike repair was a success.
On the road between Pardshaw and Brandlingill.
