Cycling weekend.

We decided that this was to be a cycling weekend as we want to get fit for some longer rides in the summer. On Friday night, however, we had a wee fell walk after work. We chose Cat Bells as we also wanted to have Fish and Chips in Keswick. The Car Park at the foot of the north ridge had only one car in it and we only met a descending party as we climbed this normally busy hill. There were some great views on a superb evening. The Fish and Chips were also great.

Starting up Cat Bells on a lovely evening in the Lakes.

On Saturday it was back to Keswick but this time on the bikes. Our route there skirted around the fells followng backroads and felt quite easy. Heavy showers were forecast but it stayed dry until we were in Fishers Cafe, enjoying Beef Broth Soup, when the heavens openned. By the time we were ready to leave, however, the rain had passed over and we only had one more light shower on our way home via Cockermouth.

Today we left home and headed for Kirkland via Asby and Arlecdon. From here it was onto Loweswater, Lorton and Eaglesfield before heading home. The forecast showers again held off and we had alot of sunny spells throughout a great little ride. Spring is really taking hold, despite the still low temperatures, with some lovely flowers in the hedgerows and lambs in the fields. Our fitness is improving and we should be able to tackle some longer rides soon.

Heading into Kirkland near Ennerdale.
