Cold north wind.
It's been 3 weeks since our last wander on the Lakeland Fells so with a good forecast we headed out quite early for Borrowdale. The sky was overcast as we pulled into the NT Car Park in Seatoller but there were enough blue patches to suggest that we could have some bright spells during the day. Our route took us steeply up onto Rosthwaite Fell where two Shepherds were hard at work rounding up Herdwicks on the very undulating ground. From here we picked our way up onto Combe Head before heading up onto Glaramara. Several light snow showers passed over on this leg and on the final scramble to the summit care was needed due to ice on the rock.
The summit shelter gave some protection from a biting wind so we had a drink and some food before heading off for Allen Crags. The weather remained changeable but there were some great views of the surrounding fells many of which were dappled with patches of snow.. We met only two other people between the two tops. After more food and drink just below the summit we headed for Sty Head and the long descent back to the car straight into the cold north wind.

Scrambling carefully up onto Glaramara.
