Stunning Day.
We headed east to the fells with the promise of good weather and snow on the hills. We had no set plan but as we approached Keswick the weather looked better further east so we eventually decided on the Blencathra area - a choice we wouldn't regret.
There was only one car in the pull off below Mousethwaite Comb so we enjoyed a very quiet climb up Scales Fell to Blencathra. There was a very good cover of snow and the views were stunning despite a 'milky' sky in the west. We had the summit to ourselves and decided to wander across the 'Saddleback' to the top of Gategill Fell for some photos.
After a quick bite to eat it was on to Foule Crag for some fantastic views over a cloud filled Eden Valley to the snow capped Pennines. The views remained tremendous as we headed for Bowscale Fell where we had lunch in the sunshine. More people could now be seen enjoying this fine day but it never felt busy and we just wanted to keep going.
Bannerdale Crags was our next top before we dropped down towards the car. However, at the top of Mousethwaite Comb we decide it was too early to descend so headed out to Souther Fell. This top gave us a great view back to all the tops traversed and it was with regret that we then turned and headed down. A stunning day in Lakeland and one to remember for years to come.
