Skiddaw.
Cumbria has had two weeks of changeable weather but in the last three days we've snatched two very good walks on the hills. Thursday evening saw us on Blake Fell after work and today we climbed Skiddaw via Ullock Pike. We left home under a cloudy sky but when the fells came in to view it was clear that the day was going to be better than forecast.
We parked at High Side just off A591 and then climbed south up to Ullock Pike. The views from here along Longside Edge to Carl Side were excellent and out of the wind it felt like a summers day. Susan stormed up the steep climb to Skiddaw's summit ridge. I eventually caught her up and we wandered south for a few meters to take in the view across the Lakes. It was stunning. The summit was busy so we continued north to a wee shelter where we had lunch. Our descent route took us down to Cockup and then the minor road that we followed back to the car. We saw no one on this section and enjoyed some great views of the northern fells.
