Grisedale Round.

It's been a dry, sunny and warm few days in Cumbria. Susan made a flying visit to Symington mid-week and fitted in a trip up our favourite Culter Fell. Today was forecast to be dry but less sunny so we headed east to Glenridding to complete a round of the Grisedale valley.
Our route took us first along Striding Edge and on to Helvellyn. The climb out of the valley was very warm for 1st October but on the ridge a strong breeze cooled things down and we had to move very carefully. There were a few other parties out but it wasn't too busy and we were soon climbing up onto the summit plateau. After a quick trip to the trig point it was back to the summit shelter for a 'piece'. The next leg of the route took us over Nethermost Pike and Dollywaggon Pike before dropping down to Grisedale Tarn. The sun made an appearance at this point so we had a rest on the shore and a bun to help us up the next climb.
Susan was on good form and led the way up to Deepdale Hause and then along the ridge to St. Sunday Crag. The views across Grisedale to Helvellyn were very good and Striding Edge was much busier than earlier in the day. The descent back to Glenridding is a long one and we were in need of a refreshing ice cream when we got there. An excellent day on the fells.
