My brother came up from Gloucestershire on Monday for his annual Easter visit to the Lakes. It was pouring down when I met him in Keswick but after coffee and scones in Fishers Cafe we decided to head up Latrigg. We took the C2C track to Bundholme then climb the east ridge of the fell. It was a windy day but by the time we reached the summit the rain had stopped. We descended in ever improving weather and as it was still early when we arrived in Keswick we decided to head off for Cat Bells. Parking proved a little difficult but we found a wee pull off and were soon climbing up the superb north ridge. It was very different to Friday evening last week when Susan and I had the fell to ourselves and it felt like summer. Today it was busy and a cool north west wind made it feel like winter again.

Tuesday was forecast to be a better day so we headed for Buttermere. Parking below Grasmoor we set off up Whiteside with a cold wind blowing and clouds on the tops. John found the climb quite tough in the wind but in just over an hour we were on the summit and heading along the ridge towards Hopegill Head. The wind blew cloud in and out all the way but on reaching the top the cloud lingered for a while and light snow began to fall. Undeterred by this we headed next for Grasmoor. The summit shelter here was an ideal lunch stop and as we left the weather began to improve giving views right across the Lakes. Our descent took us first over Whiteless Pike and then down Rannerdale to the car. John's knees were a little sore by the time we got down but he'd done well and we'd had a good day out.

Today the rain fell quite heavily as we left home heading for Sale Fell. It continued as we did a circuit over the fell before seeking refuge in Fishers Cafe for lunch. After a final look around the shops John headed for mums in Leeds hoping to return to the fells in the summer.
