Icy paths.
We had a late start today and weren't sure where to walk as we headed east. Eventually we picked Causey Pike and the ridge running east to Crag Hill. Soon after setting off it was clear that the paths were going to be very icy and just below the summit rocks of the Pike we put our Microspikes on. They gave us much more confidence and were essential as we climbed higher and conditions became more wintry. There were very few people out but as we started the final snow climb to Crag Hill we passed a party of 3 wearing full crampons and carrying Ice Axes. The summit plateau was covered in thick ice as was the trig point.
From the top we dropped down to Coledale Hause but had no plans to continue the Coledale horseshoe. Instead we headed east down Coledale back to the car. A good little outing and a return to winter conditions on the fells.
