The 'Pike'.

We pulled up at Seathwaite in Borrowdale fairly early this morning with an overcast sky. This was disappointing as the forecast suggested better but we weren't put off and set off for Scafell Pike. We climbed up Grains Gill at a good steady pace and were pleased to see Great End beginning to emerge from the cloud as we approached. The cloud refused to lift completely but we did get some fantastic glimpses of the surrounding fells as we appraoched Great End summit. These, however, disappeared as we carried on to the top of Broad Crag in low cloud giving  a couple some route advice at one point.
On the next leg things improved greatly. The 'Pike' came into view first and by the time we reached Broad Crag col there were superb views in all directions. The summit of England's highest was very busy as usual so we didn't stop but carried on for Lingmell where we had some food. The light on Pillar and Great Gable was at times fantastic. We descended via the Corridor Route to Sty Head Tarn and were again reward with stunning views.
To date October has given us some great days out and the autumn colours are looking really good in Lakeland.
The cloud clears as we climb Great End.
