A mixed weekend.

The weather has been very mixed this weekend from warm and sunny to wet, cool and windy. On Friday after work we climbed Latrigg above Keswick. It was a very overcast evening and we had some light rain on both the ascent and descent. A pleasant way to end the working week especially when followed by a meal in Keswick.
On Saturday the fells were shrouded in cloud as we drove east. We decided on Blencathra as it looked to be cloud free. We left the car in warm sunshine but the cloud built as we climbed and by the summit there was no view and a brisk NW wind cooled us down. We pressed on to Bowscale Fell and it started to rain as we approached the summit where we had lunch. The rain got heavier as we climbed over Bannerdale Crags but then eased as we dropped down to Glenderamackin Beck. Encouraged by this improved weather we decided to climb Souther Fell before dropping back to the car.

The cloud level drops as Susan climbs up Blencathra.

On the summit with no view.

Dropping off Bannerdale Crags as the rain eased.

Today we headed off to Buttermere on the bikes. It was bright and cool as we left home but the fells were cloud covered. Things improved as we headed east and at times we rode in bright sunshine. It was never, however, too warm as there was a brisk NW wind. In Buttermere we, as usual, had a tray bake before heading home. As we ate this the weather, however, changed again and it started to rain.Fortunately this didn't last long and for most of the ride home it was bright and breezy.

On the road to Buttermere.
