Fantastic Day.
A dry and sunny day was forecast so we left early for Wasdale. As we drove up the valley it was clear that the forecast was going to be accurate and that we'd have a grand day out.
We headed first for Black Sail Pass and we were soon removing layers and putting on sun hats. What a contrast to two weeks ago when we were adding layers to fend off the cold. From the pass we climbed steeply with some scrambling to Kirk Fell. The views in all directions were stunning and the fells quiet.
Our next objective was Great Gable so we dropped down to Beck Head and then climbed steeply to the summit. This was as usual busy so we wandered over to the Westmorland Cairn for lunch and a 'boots off' rest in the sun looking down Wasdale. As there was still plenty of the day left we decided to carry on down to Sty Head Tarn and then follow the Corridor Route to Lingmell. This was the busiest part of our route with several large parties descending from Scafell Pike - some of them looking very tired. There are still large patches of snow on England's highest mountain and they could linger for some time.
From Lingmell we followed Lingmell Nose back down to Wasdale and the car. The views into Hollow Stones were superb.
As we drove home we both agreed it had been a fantastic day on the fells. Lets hope that we get more warm, dry and sunny weather this summer.
