A day of two halves.
The MWIS forecast promised a dry and calm day so we were up and out quite early this morning. As we drove along the A66 the weather looked promising and we decided on the Newlands Horseshoe. The car park below Cat Bells had plenty of space and we were soon climbing on to the ridge in beautiful light with some low cloud hanging over Derwent Water. These excellent conditions continued all the way to High Spy and up onto Dale Head and it was great to wander along taking in the fantastic views.
We had lunch just below the summit of Dale Head and decided to go out to Robinson before returning to Hindscarth and descending it's north east ridge to Scope End. On this leg the cloud built and the views vanished and at one point it even started to snow. Great care was needed on the descent as the ground was frozen in places and the rocks were very greasy. We were both relieved to reach the valley floor.
A grand day on the hill.
