Contrasting Days.
Today is wet, windy and cold and we haven't been inspired to venture far. The forecast gave some hope for the day so we were up and out early. However, it soon became clear that conditions high on the fells would not be good. We settled on a quick walk over Sale Fell followed by some Christmas shopping and a coffee in Keswick.
Yesterday was a much better day with some sunshine and much needed colour in the landscape. We set off early for Ambleside to try and find a few 'bits and pieces' for Christmas and then went for a wander on the fells above Grasmere. Our route took us up Helm Crag and then over Gibson Knott and Calf Crag before dropping down Far Easdale back to the car. The higher fells had a covering of snow and it was great to be out for the first time in two weeks.

On the way home we popped into Keswick to have a look at the Christmas lights. Due to last weeks flooding only one road into the town is open and all the bridges across the River Greta are closed until they've been inspected for damage. Despite this and the numerous skips outside houses full of flood damaged property the town does look very festive and is very much open for business.
