Sunday stroll.

We'd arranged to meet Jim and his mate Ken for a walk today so it was another early start. Jim's just getting back into climbing the higher fells, after some knee problems, so we met at Mungrisdale to climb Bannerdale Crags and Bowscale Fell. It was a beautiful morning when we left west Cumbria but the sky was much cloudier beyond Keswick which was a little disappointing.
From Mungrisdale we set of up Bannerdale and then ambled up the lovely ridge that leads almost directly to the summit of Bannerdale Crags. There was a breeze higher up and it was much cooler than yesterday so we soon had jackets on. The route to Bowscale Fell was drier than expected and the sky at times brightened to give excellent views in all directions. Eleven paragliders could be seen above Carrock Fell and the summit of Blencathra looked to be as busy as usual on a Sunday.
After lunch by the shelter on Bowscale Fell we wandered slowly down the east ridge back to Mungrisdale. As we descended the weather got better and better and we drove home in beautiful sunshine.

Views across to the Pennines as the 'team' drops down to Mungrisedale.

Jim had coped well with the round and hopefully he'll be able to keep wandering the fells he loves for years to come.
