Buttermere Round.

The 'Indian Summer' has continued all week but broke today with the passage of two fronts. We've had a couple of after work outings and set off early this morning for Buttermere. There was some brightness in the sky as we climbed up Robinson and we made good progress to Buttermere Moss. At this point Susan, who was walking in approach shoes, had to change into her new red Croc wellies to cross the boggy ground with dry feet. They were a great success.
By the time we reached Robinson the cloud level had dropped and we continued onto Hindscarth and Dale Head with very limited views. Dale Head summit was very busy with local charity walkers taking part in a 'climb Everest in a day' event and marked the start of heavy rain which continued all the way down to Honister Pass.
After a roll and a drink it was uphill again heading for Haystacks. The cloud began to lift as we climbed and there were some good views down Buttermere. The whole Haystacks traverse was very busy making us wonder what Wainwright would think of such crowds on his favourite hill.
We had thought about continuing along the High Crag - High Stile ridge to Red Pike but at Scarth Gap decided to drop back down to valley and walk to the car along the lake side. This decision proved a good one as on the way home it started to rain heavily again.

Enjoying the 'Indian Summer' on Tuesday evening.
