Two wet days on the hill
The rain is pouring down in Cumbria today and I have a pile of wet gear drying out in the garage. On Tuesday I went for a walk up Blencathra via Scales Fell. From very early on there were no views, light rain and a gusty wind. I met a family who needed some navigational assistance - they weren't even sure that they were on Blencathra - 'it doesn't look like it did on the telly'. They had no map.
Yesterday I met up with Alec to show him the route up and down Scafell Pike in preparation for a 'Three Peaks Round'. Rain threatened as we left Seathwaite and by the time we reached Styhead Tarn the skies had opened and it was pouring down. We made good time along the Corridor Route, passing many very wet souls, and didn't linger long on the summit. If anything the rain got heavier as we descended and it was amazing to see ephemeral becks pouring down all the hillsides. In places the path itself had turned into a beck and care was needed. We were both pretty wet on reaching the car. Hopefully Alec and his mates will have better weather for their round.
