A short walk with a marra
Another wet day in Cumbria but yesterday was sunny and dry. I cycled out to Buttermere to meet an old marra (Cumbrian for mate) Jim and his wife Mil for a walk around the lake. Susan and I met Jim 5 years ago when we completed the High Level Route between Chamonix and Zermatt and have since met up with him several times for walks in the Lakes. Orginally from Flimby on the Cumbrian coast he has a deep knowledge and love of the fells and is always good company on the hill. This was the first time I'd met Mil who has been getting out to walk more with Jim since he retired from teaching in Blackpool in July.
We had a leisurely walk around the lake, enjoying fine views of all the fells, and finished with an ice cream sitting in the sun by the church.
Buttermere on a rare sunny day this summer.
Jim and Mil enjoying a break and great views of the fells.
Hi, I randomly came across your blog, and have to say your pictures are very impressive! I'd love to see Cumbria one day, its such a shame more people don't discover the beauty of our own country.
