Symington cycling weekend.
Drove up to Symington on Friday after work to meet Susan - who’d been to Glasgow for Alec’s Graduation Ceremony.
Saturday was overcast as we left the village for a cycle to Moffat. Our route took us first to Broughton then down the Tweed Valley to Tweedsmuir where we headed east over the Megget pass to St. Mary’s Loch. There was a head wind for most of this stage and even when we headed south towards the Gray Mares Tail and Moffat the wind was against us. We had an ice cream in Moffat before heading for home via the Devil’s Beef Tub road, Greenhillstairs and Cycle Route 74. A final ‘refreshment stop’ was needed in Abington before the final 10miles along the A73 back to the village. In total we covered 75miles and although much of the day remained overcast thoroughly enjoyed a classic Borders ride.
Sunday was again overcast with low cloud on all the fells so we decided on another cycle. We again headed first to Broughton but then went over Dreva pass to Dawyck Gardens where we had coffee and tea in the excellent café. It was then home via Drumelzier and Coulter. Another great round, which brought our weekend mileage up to 104 miles. A poor choice of shorts on Saturday did, however, mean that I left for Cumbria with a rather sore backside.
Climbing up Dreva.
