Still no sign of summer.

There is still no sign of summer arriving in Cumbria but we've managed two good days on the fells this weekend despite the heavy showers and wind.

Saturday - The forecast wasn't very promising but we eventually decided on a walk over the Loweswater Fells. Parking at Waterend we headed up Fellbarrow first and then followed the ridge south to Low Fell. We were rewarded with some excellent views and met only two other walkers. From Low Fell we headed west over Darling Fell and then dropped back to the car. The rain held off until we were almost home.

The ridge south to Low Fell gave excellent views down Butteremere.

Sunday - The forecast was even worse for today but we judged that the northern fells would stay drier for longer and headed off early for Carrock Fell. Parking north of Mosedale we climbed quickly up to the summit with the aid of a tailwind. The weather was better than expected and the views were good so we decided not to head straight for High Pike. Instead we set off for Knott via the Lingy Bothy before doubling back over Great Lingy Hill to High Pike. The wind had picked up by the time we reached the top and the sky was darkening so we dropped down to Carrock Beck and reached the car just as the first drops of rain fell.

Checking the route - out of the wind in the bothy.

Only 112 miles to Edinburgh - the summit direction indicator on High Crag.

A good weekend despite the overall weather. Fingers crossed for some sun and warmth soon!!!!!!!
