Glensax Round
Drove up to Symington on Friday evening and arrived just in time to catch 'Heather's Weather' on BBC Scotland. The best forecast was for the eastern border hills so we decided on an old favourite of Susan's - the Glensax round.
Saturday:
As we drove east to Pebbles the weather didn't look bad but it was windy so it was likely to be a changeable day. By 9.30 we were heading off on the round and into a stiff headwind. We made good time over Kirkhope Law and Birkscairn Hill but slowed over Stake Law and on the slopes of Dun Rig due to boggy ground and lowering cloud. Susan led all the way and used her local knowledge to lead us round the valley head and onto Middle Hill in the mist. From here on we had the wind behind us and we soon reached the last hill of the day Hundleshope Heights. The weather steadily improved as we descended into the glen and we even had some sunshine. An excellent day in the border hills.
