Skiddaw day.
On Longside Edge.

Things looked promising as the fells began to clear on the drive east beyond Cockermouth. We were heading for the best route up Skiddaw along Longside Edge. The small car park below Ullock Pike was almost full when we arrived but we squeezed in and were soon heading up the fell. It was cooler than expected and there was quite a stiff breeze but we made good time and were soon on Ullock Pike having past two other couples. By this time the cloud had dropped and the top of Skiddaw was hidden from view. We took in Carl Side before heading up to the summit ridge. At 3000' it was very windy and cool but we had a drink and sandwich in a 'shelter' beyond the trig point before heading down the north ridge to Broad End and our descent route into Barkbethdale. By the time we reached the car it had started to rain but we had timed it well and had a good round.
