Northern Fells Round

Having not been out on the hill for two weeks we were very keen to get out today. We headed east on the A66 to the foot of Blencathra and parked up at Scales. From here we headed first to Bannerdale Crags and then Bowscale Fell. A good cover of soft snow and a gusty wind made the going hard work in places but we made good time over the first two tops of the day.
On the next leg to Blencathra we were slowed down when we both managed to fall into partially frozen snow covered bogs. Up to 20 people could be seen slowly moving along a very alpine looking Sharp Edge as we climbed up the side of Foule Crag. The summit plateau was very windy and icy in places but we were rewarded with some clear views across to the Pennines and into the Lakes.
A descent down the ridge to Scales Fell saw us back to the car. The feet were still wet but we felt better after a grand day out.
